About the Book

Perimenopause does not ask for a written invitation. It arrives without warning and, before you realize what’s happening, starts messing with your metabolism, ransacking your relationships, and sabotaging your sleep and sense of self.

In P is for Perimenopause: The ABCs of a Hormonal Hellscape, each letter pairs irreverent, deeply relatable humor with colorful, emotionally observant illustrations to name a symptom, behavior, or cultural absurdity with striking specificity. From brain fog and baffling body changes to late-night overthinking and quiet, simmering rage, the book reflects the experience in a way that seems both ridiculous and unmistakably familiar.

Structured as an escalating, alliterative alphabet, the book builds from early confusion to full-system overload, expanding beyond the A–Z with a brutally honest glossary, a full-body diagram of everything that seems to be going wrong, all-night search histories, and survival-kit essentials.

This is a book to be read aloud, laughed over, and passed among friends. It names the chaos, the rage, the weirdness, and the quiet panic with honesty and humor, giving women a way to feel seen and a little less alone.

Meet the Author

A lifetime lover of books, Elisabeth Saake has devoted most of her working life to publishing. She began her career as an editorial assistant at a New York literary agency before realizing the Big Apple was just a bit too big for her small-town heart. She’s been lucky to remain in various roles within book publishing while moving to progressively smaller towns ever since. She is the co-author of Houseplants and Their F*cked-Up Thoughts and the author of Tchotchkes and Their F*cked-Up Thoughts and P is for Perimenopause. Elisabeth is a creek lover and a podcast devotee. She lives in Chico, CA, with her husband, two sons, and an assortment of disturbed tchotchkes and disgruntled houseplants.

Meet the Illustrator

Holley Maher is an illustrator, storyteller, and songwriter based in Nashville, Tennessee, and the Creative Director behind stationery brand Wink Wink Paper Co. She was recognized as one of the top creative stationers in Middle America by Alive Magazine, and is represented by Writers House Agency in New York. Holley’s work is bright, colorful, cheeky, and rich in detail, but she also loves to draw things that are spooky, mysterious, and alluring. She finds inspiration in classic folk tales, architecture, old musicals, and textile design, and is deeply inspired by classic mid-century picture books like Madeline, Polly and the Wolf, Tom’s Midnight Garden, and The Littlest Witch. The Strega Nona books by Tomie DePaula were especially cherished in her Italian-American household.
